On May 1, 2024, workers across all industries will gather at Battery Park in Burlington to celebrate May Day. May Day originates from the Haymarket affair of 1886, when workers striking in favor of the eight-hour work week were brutally crushed by Illinois police. Since then, workers around the world have gathered together annually on May 1 to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices made over the decades to build worker power and solidarity. This May Day, we will celebrate the gains made by workers over the last year, as well as hear live music performed by Sunroom and enjoy free food provided by People’s Kitchen.
